Three Things To Know Before Getting A Pardon (Record Suspension) In Canada
How much does a pardon cost?
Our fee for a guaranteed pardon is just $580 (monthly payment plans are available). We’ll take care of the paperwork, navigate the red tape and get your pardon as quickly as humanly possible – or we’ll refund every penny of your fee.
In addition, there are a few other fees involved with obtaining a pardon. They are:
- RCMP digital fingerprinting: $75
- Court information: $20 (Alberta convictions only)
- Local police record check: $0-$80 (varies by detachment)
- Parole Board Processing fee: $631
How long does it take to get a pardon?
Depending on how quickly the RCMP processes your fingerprints, we can have your record suspension application prepared within 16-24 weeks. (That’s about half the time it takes the average person to submit a successful pardon application).
Once we submit your application, the Parole Board of Canada can take 6 to 12 months to process and approve your pardon.
When am I eligible for a pardon?
Those convicted of a summary offence are eligible for a pardon 5 years after completion of their sentence. (Note that sentence completion includes payment of any and all fines.) The waiting period for indictable offences is 10 years.
Eligibility, however, can be more complicated than simply sitting out the required waiting period. During our initial consult, we will help you determine if you are eligible for a pardon. That information could save you a lot of time and money, and it won’t cost you a dime to find out.
